Fowl Sounds Echonomicon

Fowl Sounds is a small builder that specializes in pedals for down-tuned guitars, bass, heavy music, shoegaze and other alternative genres.

Their Echonomicon is a parallel delay/reverb + distortion. The signal is split in two and sent, on one side, to the delay and then the reverb and, on the other through a high headroom overdrive. The Mix knob then lets you balance how much of each side you want to set, while a Cut knobs lets you darken the wet signal to your liking.

Here are the sounds made by the Fowl Sounds Echonomicon.

Upon entering the Echonomicon, your buffered signal is split into 2. First, the wet signal  enters a companded pt2399 with almost 1 sec of delay time. Then, that signal is fed through a Belton reverb brick, followed by a high headroom overdrive. This allows for a really rich lofi echo that can go from subtle analog sounding warmth to crackling madness.

The dry signal is also fed through a high headroom overdrive that can have a very light boost, all the way up to some harmonic grind. Finally then these two signals are blended back together for tons of possibilities.

CUT: High-cut tone for the wet signal. Go from brassy, clanky echo to dark waves of gaze

MIX: Blends wet and dry signal.

GAIN: Controls gain of wet signal. Fully CCW, and the wet signal is a little more traditional. Fully CW and you can get into some crackling madness.

DWL: Controls the length of the reverb. Please note that the wet signal will always contain some reverb.

TIME: Controls the delay time of the PT2399. Logarithmic control has been chosen so a good portion of the sweep remains in reverb territory. The longer the delay time, the more lofi and staticky it will get.

FDBK: Controls the repeats. Go from single repeats to chaotic oscillations. It is best to start with this knob fully CCW while dialing in delay time, then slowly dial in feedback. This feature can be controlled with an expression pedal. A value of 50K is recommended, like a moog EP-3.

DRV: Controls gain of the dry signal. Fully CCW will provide a very light clean boost, that may  be mildly overdriven if your pickups are extremely hot. The tone will thin out slightly as the gain is increased.

VOL: Controls overall volume. This pedal can get very loud

Momentary Switch: Causes the reverb brick to self oscillate, momentarily of course.
