Henning at EytschPi42 is freaking out about the Zero pedal amp by Spanish company Thermion.
While major pedal companies are busy trying to reduce the size of pedal amps to the compact stompbox format (i.e. the size of a regular BOSS pedal), Thermion has taken a different approach, focusing on delivering a product that makes sense for the gigging guitarists, no matter the size.
Zero is a portable guitar amp + reverb pedal with a clean preamp inside voiced after a tube circuit, but its most surprising feature is the fact that it’s Stereo, which as far as we know makes it a first in its kind. Each output delivers 40w of power.
The routing section is definitely one of the strengths of this pedal, featuring both a Stereo FX Loop and a (mono) Preamp Loop that allows you to replace the internal preamp for an external one. It has two XLR and headphones output with Cab Modeling, and also Stereo Power Outs to plug into external cabs.
It also has no external adapter, which has its pros and cons (nobody likes those, but having the PSU inside the pedal requires a bigger case).
While Zero might not be ideal for guitarists looking for a heavy amp (it doesn’t have a gain knob), it’s a very handy solution for musicians who want to make the most of their Stereo effects without having to carry around two sets of amps. And if you like the embedded cab emulation, it offers also a great way to keep a consistent sound between the studio and the stage.
