We celebrated collaborative pedals in our 2016 Brooklyn Stompbox Exhibit issue of The Deli Magazine with this article written by the guys at Gearphoria.

Last week, two extremely relevant pedal companies that hadn’t previously participated in this sort of cross-pollination (BOSS and JHS) rather unexpectedly came out with a joint  stompbox called the JB-2 Angry Driver – a pedal we were REALLY hoping to have at the Brooklyn Stompbox Exhibit! (But we did not…).

As you probably know, the guys at JHS are very familiar with the BOSS effects, since they’ve been “messing around” with them for years through modding. But this effect is no mod… this is the first pedal born from an official collaboration between the two companies, which sounds very much like an endorsement from the Japanese giant for a U.S. based manufacturer that has obviously bought from BOSS (and then resold at higher price) a fair amount of pedals! This is somewhat historic: BOSS had never before released a collaborative pedal.

The Angry Driver is presented as part of the celebrations tied to BOSS’s Compact Series 40th anniversary, which also included the release of the DS-1-4A pedal and the three pedal 40th anniversary box set.

“But how does it sound?” – you may ask.

The JB-2 Angry Driver pairs the tones of the iconic BOSS BD-2 Blues Driver with JHS Pedals’ popular Angry Charlie, […] an all-new combined circuit with refined sound and performance perfectly tuned for dual-mode drive operation.

The JB-2 Angry Driver features three dual-concentric knobs that provide independent drive, tone, and level control for each overdrive type. Via a six-position mode selector, you can use each overdrive independently, or combine them together in series and parallel configurations. With the ability to blend the Blues Driver’s famously expressive low-to-mid gain tones with the Angry Charlie’s aggressive rock voice in any combination, the JB-2 Angry Driver delivers unmatched range and versatility from a single overdrive pedal.

That sounds intriguing indeed… check out the video demos below!
